there are a few different kinds of relief funds & packages such as the ERTC (Employee retention tax credit) which is a refundable payroll tax credit. It is designed to help businesses impacted by COVID-19, retain their employees. It is part if the CARES act which was signed into law on March 27, 2020 in the midst of the first wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Many expansions were added to the bill in 2021.
Eligible businesses can receive up to $7,000 per employee per quarter for 2021. Totalling a potential $28,000 per employee for this last year! For the year of 2020, eligible businesses can receive up to $5,000 per employee.
There are two main requirements when determining eligibility:
1. Your company experienced a reduction in gross receipts.
2. You were subject to a government ordered mandate which forced your business to reduce operations.
Yes, as long as your company meets eligibility requirements. The CAA expansion signed into law on December 27, 2020, adjusted some relief funds to allow companies which received PPP to receive the more as well.
Businesses in any industry can be eligible (including non-profits) as long as they meet the eligibility requirements outlined by the IRS.
No. This is not a loan. It's a refundable tax credit. When we file your claim we request a refund check for you.
Most relief credits work in correlation to your payroll returns and not through your business income tax returns, which is what most CPAs handle. Therefore, most CPAs don't normally process this ERC credit, unless they process your payroll in-house. This disconnect is a big reason why this credit may be underutilized. Since CPAs don't typically handle it and they are the tax experts, it has mostly fallen through the cracks for many eligible businesses.

In our experience, we have found that due to the complexity (the ERC tax code is over 200 pages) and time investment necessary to understand the ERC program, very few are able to effectively maximize this sizeable credit for your business.
Yes! There are two possible qualifications:
• revenue reduction,
or
• a "full or partial shutdown of your business due to COVID-19".

Specifically the IRS describes this as "A government authority required partial or full shutdown of your business during 2020 or 2021. This includes your operations being limited by commerce, inability to travel or restrictions of group meetings."
